4K FAQ's

The following are some frequently asked questions regarding 4 year-old kindergarten. They are not all encompassing, so do call 920-906-6513 if you require additional information.

4K FAQ’s

Question: Does my child get charged for attending 4K at a childcare site? How does that work if s/he goes to childcare there but also attends 4k?

Answer:

•  There is no charge for the 2 hours and 40 minutes of 4K at any site. The only charge is for the amount of time your child stays for child care.

•  If your child stays for childcare, you pay the center rate.

•  We do have a $3 activity fee that is charged all children for construction paper. That fee is collected at the beginning of the school year.

Question: How many hours is 4K?

Answer:

•  2 hours and 40 minutes
•  5 days a week

Question:  I live in the Chegwin residency but want my child to attend the 4k at Pier, what do I do?

Answer:

•  You can attend any site if you provide the transportation and provided there is room.

•  School district residents have first priority and then we fill in any openings

•  You must fill out a 4K registration packet and list Pier as your choice and submit it to the 4K coordinator.

Question: If I do not live in the Fond du Lac School District, must I complete the “Out of District Open Enrollment” form for my child to attend 4K?

Answer:

•  Yes, if you are not a Fond du Lac District resident, you must complete the application to attend 4K at a school or center based program. This can be done online at:

             http://dpi.wi.gov/sms/psctoc.html

•  Your home school district must have a 4K program. If they do not, you cannot do open enrollment but can pay tuition.

• If you need help with this process, please come to the Administration Center at 72 W. 9th Street, and we can assist you.

Question: What if my child needs bussing?

Answer:

•  If you live in a hazardous area your child will be transported. If you have questions regarding transportation, contact the District Attendance and Transportation Secretary at 906-6524, or Nancy Hackbarth at 906-6513.

Question:  When will registration forms be available, where can I get them? Do I send them to Nancy Hackbarth or to the school or the childcare center?

Answer:

•  Registration forms will be available starting February 15th at District schools, partner sites, and the Administration Center.

•  The best is to bring it to the Administration Center at 72 W. 9th Street. You can give it to the schools and they send it to the Administration Center. Center directors will also take them and drop them off to the Administration Center.

•  Be sure to bring your child’s birth certificate when you turn in your registration form.

Question: I cannot attend any of the registration sessions, is that the only time I can register my child?

Answer:

•  We take registrations any time after February 15th, please do not submit forms prior to that date.

•  Your child is not enrolled until the coordinator receives the registration forms.

Question: What if there are no more slots open at the school where I want my child to attend 4k? What do I do?

Answer:

•  We work with your family to find an alternative site.

Question: My child can only attend the morning session but it is full, what can I do?

Answer:

•  We can look at an alternative site.

•  You can wait and see if openings come up but that usually isn’t known until fall.
