School Safety in Wisconsin

Hello Parents and Guardians,

I hope all of you had a very nice Thanksgiving Holiday.  We have come back to school to see two difficult school safety situations occur at both Waukesha South High School yesterday and Oshkosh West High School today.  These are challenging things to hear about and can be upsetting for students and families.  Please keep these schools, their staff and their students in your thoughts.

Situations like this cause us to reflect. It is why we focus on relationships and helping all students feel welcome and valued.  It is why we consistently practice our emergency preparedness drills to be as best prepared as we can possibly be. And it is why the trust that exists between students and adults in schools is so very important.

Student and staff safety are of the utmost importance. It is important to speak with your child about these events if they have concerns. Our school staff, including principals and counselors, are always ready to support students who may be feeling uneasy as well.  It takes our whole community to keep our students and staff safe, and we ask for your continued support to report any safety concerns you or your student may have.  Together, we are better.

My Best,

Dr. James Sebert
Superintendent of Schools
