Fondy Glows for #62 - School Communities Unite for Schueffner Family

The generous hearts and kindness of fans attending last Friday's football game at Fruth Field glowed bright as a total of $4,572.21 was raised for the family of Trent Schueffner.  While the Fond du Lac Cardinal’s defeated Arrowhead High School 28-22 in the Level 2 game of the WIAA playoffs, both school communities came together honoring the life of the St. Mary’s Springs Academy’s football player who lost his life on Friday, October 19, 2018 in a tragic hunting accident.

Coming together to support their parochial school neighbor, Fond du Lac High School’s Cardinal’s Nest team used their own school’s playoff football game to show its support.  Creating the theme “Glowing For You, 62” and offering green glow-in-the-dark necklaces for purchase at the game to raise funds for the family generated a lot more than the group could have ever hoped for. A color chosen by the Schueffner family to honor their son Trent, green was visible at the player tunnel at the start of the game being worn by the Fondy JFL (junior football league) players and throughout the stadium by students and fans alike.  Green signs were also visible on the fences by the entrance and student bleachers.

“The outpouring of support at the (Fondy) game was amazing,” said Jennifer King, teacher/advisor of the Cardinal’s Nest.  Sales of the glow-in-the-dark necklaces, general donations, and a green “miracle minute” bag collection during half-time generated the funds that will be donated to the family.  “We have incredible students, families, and residents in Fond du Lac who are very compassionate and willing to give to help and support others, especially with the loss of a young life. This just really made me so proud of our community.”

In a final farewell following the game, Fondy’s football players formed a 62 behind the bleachers.
