ACE Academy

INTRODUCTION

The Architecture • Construction • Engineering (ACE) Academy is designed to provide students with a broad scope of the skills and knowledge necessary to pursue an exciting career in the architecture/construction/engineering fields. Through relevant and challenging courses, the students will receive a solid foundation in the introductory processes and fundamentals related to the professional tracks of the skilled trades industries. Students will be able to explore each discipline and apply credits to the track best suited to their interests for further study.

Each track, Architecture, Construction or Engineering, within the ACE Academy has an introductory course intended to allow the student to explore different career options and the educational and professional path available in those disciplines. Beyond career exploration, each introductory class also covers the terminology, processes, skills and industry-specific content to provide the student with a snapshot of that discipline as well as how all the disciplines in the construction industry work together to build our communities.

In addition, the ACE Academy includes a course in blueprint reading, a skill that is considered a fundamental and required aptitude for all disciplines and individuals in the building industry.

SCOPE OF THE PROGRAM

The ACE ACADEMY is the largest collaborative effort in the State of Wisconsin between industry and education. Over 48 companies are actively involved in providing hands-on learning for our students.

A recent industry-wide survey by the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of America indicated that...

  •  Seventy-five percent of construction firms in Wisconsin report they are having a hard time filling skilled trades positions that represent the bulk of the construction workforce.
  • Seventy-eight percent of the state’s construction firms plan to expand their hiring of additional skilled trades workers.

What is truly unique about the ACE Academy is that there are 48 companies that are actively involved in curriculum development and/or hands-on instruction. Their technical expertise or presence in the classroom allows the students to use cutting-edge equipment and learn directly from people in the field,”   Vern Widmer – Fond du Lac High School ACE Academy Instructor

“With the abundance of students who don’t go on to college, it’s very important we help the instructors raise the level of students’ experiences to the caliber that employers want to see when they enter the market. The ability to use journeymen/experts to teach in the classroom is a vital part of the success in the ACE program,”  Bob Roehrig, Construction Industry Co-Chairman

"Construction and Extraction has the highest overall projected job growth of any industry with a 20.5 percent increase between 2017 and 2022 in Wisconsin." (Sept. 2015) Ken Simonson, Chief Economist, Associated General Contractors
