The School of Recognition award is presented to schools leveraging federal Title I funding to provide additional resources and services to economically disadvantaged students. The staff and students of Sabish Middle School earned an award for Beating-the-Odds for a fourth consecutive year.
Criteria for receiving a School of Recognition award includes reaching goals for test participation, attendance, and graduation rates. Beating-the-Odds Schools are in the top 25 percent of high-poverty schools in the state, and
have above-average student achievement in reading and mathematics when compared to schools from similarly sized districts, schools, grade configurations, and poverty levels. Additional criteria, and a full description of award categories can be found on the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s website.
“We are proud of our students for having the drive and stamina to learn as much as they have,” said Stacey Buchholz, Principal of Sabish Middle School. “They maintained the fortitude necessary to complete all the assessments within the testing window last spring.”
Buchholz also applauded the efforts of the schools teachers. “They go above and beyond on a daily basis, both in school and now during remote learning, to engage students in active learning.”
“We value our partnership with our Sabish families; their trust in our approach allows us to create an environment focused on academic excellence and social emotional health,” added Buchholz. “The support we have for one another is the foundation for our continued growth.”
