About Us | Who We Are

Fond du Lac STEM Academy is a tuition-free, public charter school serving students in grades 6 through 12. At STEM Academy, our educators use innovative practices to develop creative, passionate learners through experiences with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics while teaching all core subjects through the lens of Project-Based Learning. Project Based Learning, or PBL, is a teaching method in which students learn by actively engaging in real-world and personally meaningful projects. This creates a student-driven learning environment that encourages problem solving, critical thinking, and collaboration skills that benefit our students inside and outside of the classroom. As students begin their STEM journey in middle school, we start with a more traditional classroom experience as we build the skills and independence necessary to be successful in our non-traditional, relevant and authentic learning and curriculum.

While we emphasize STEM-based subjects, our students also enjoy a range of additional opportunities to provide a well-rounded learning experience. Students are enrolled in courses like English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Physical Education. Other opportunities include Band, Orchestra, and World Language.

Once a month, our students participate in S.H.A.R.K. Team Days where they meet in multi-grade level groups to participate in activities ranging from baking to e-sports and model UN to watercolor painting. STEM Academy has its own Recreational Basketball and Volleyball teams, a number of afterschool clubs and students are able to participate in activities hosted at other district schools, such as Track and Field and theater performances. STEM Academy is the only school in the Fond du Lac School District with a middle school Lego Robotics team, which opens the door to more advanced Robotics teams as your student learns and grows.

What makes STEM Academy different? Our promise is to educate the whole child through project-based learning and other innovative methods as we engage and excite students in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. We are a close-knit community that values innovation, diversity and hard work. As a charter school in the Fond du Lac School District, we are able to offer a unique educational approach to guide students in ways that more traditional models may not be able to implement. Through Project Based Learning and with the help of our Fabrication Lab, Science Labs, Audio-Visual Lab and more, we encourage our students to build confidence, look beyond the classroom, and put their ideas into action.
