FDL High School Students Head Off to Boston
Fond du Lac High School students left on Sunday, April 9, for Boston where they will participate in a clinic with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and will perform outside Boston's Faneuil Hall. The trip will also include stops at Boston Tea Party Museum, sites from the Revolutionary War on Boston's Freedom Trail, Boston Commons, Fenway Garden Society, Cheers restaurant, Salem Witch Museum, Prudential Skywalk and Quincy Market. The group will return on April 14.  Read More
STEM Institute's Odyssey of the Mind Team Advances to World Finals

Many hours of hard work paid off as the STEM Institute ‘s Odyssey of the Mind (OM) team earned an invitation to the World Finals at Michigan State University. The STEM Institute OM team members (L-R) Ruby Riegert, Alyssa Janke, Sophie Schmidt, Jared Ott, Mason McGrath, Miles Dennis, and Nathan Ott are shown here after their performance at State on March 18, 2017, where they took first place in Division 2 and won the Ranatra Fusca Creativity Award. At the World Finals, they will compete against future world leaders from over 33 countries. Fond du Lac School District Nolan Receives WEMTA Excellence Award
Congratulations to Renee NolanTechnology Integration Specialist, for her recent selection as the 2017 Wisconsin Educational Media and Technology Association (WEMTA) Excellence Award winner. Ms. Nolan was recognized for making significant contributions to the library, media, and educational technology profession and for several outstanding series of accomplishments within this field of education. Superintendent of Schools, Dr. James Sebert, commented, "We couldn't be prouder of Renee for her receipt of this award and what she brings to our District each and every day."

Her nominator and former colleague, Kim Schneider, currently at Markesan School District, shared, “Renee Nolan is an outstanding educator who is dedicated to infusing educational technology to support high-quality instruction. Renee has been a part of the Instructional Technology team in Fond du Lac since 2012. She is the leader in the one-to-one initiative, classroom models, Haiku/PowerSchool LMS and Google Apps for Education. Renee works tirelessly to help all students and all teachers to grow in the use of technology applications that will enhance learning. She is a technology innovator, a reflective educator, and a model of excellence in learning for the staff and students she works with daily.”

Straight from Fondy Archery Team Competes at National Archery Championship

Brady Buss, a 7th grader at Sabish, Tessa Wirtz, an 8th grader at Woodworth, and Briar Wirtz, a 5th grader at Lakeshore, recently competed at the S3DA Indoor National Archery Championship in Cincinnati, Ohio representing the Straight from Fondy Archery Team for the Fond du Lac School District. All three archers placed in the Top 10 in their respective Divisions: Brady – 10th place, Tessa – 8th place, and Briar – 5th place. This is an impressive accomplishment considering over 500 kids competed throughout 36 states.

Theisen Students Fundraise for Clean Water for South Sudan

Several Theisen Middle School sixth graders ordered and sold Clean Water for South Sudan bracelets ($1 each) after reading A Long Walk to Water in Ms. Knueppel’s Social Studies class. Students (L-R) Alyssa Makowski, Robert Meyers, and Jeremiah Williams, shown here with Officer Olson who raised $200 at one of his concerts, received valuable guidance from Miss Goodacre for this fundraising project. Through effective promotion at the school by the students and bracelet sales and donations at Officer Olson’s concert, over $300 was raised to support water projects in South Sudan.

Career Construction Academy - Building Careers for the Future

Worker shortages are impacting various segments of the economy and the construction field is feeling that shortage more so than most. Seventy-five percent of construction firms report they are having a hard time filling hourly craft positions. In Wisconsin, it is projected that the construction and extraction field will have the highest overall job growth of any industry with a 20.5% increase between 2012-2022.
